So happy that we found Mudville Flats! This is a boutique hotel that is conveniently located in East Village. You can walk to restaurants, bars, shops, Petco Park, etc. The place is beautiful with dark wood floors, wood pillars, oriented rugs and the most comfortable bed! The windows are double paned making it very quiet and even though you are in downtown we had a secluded feeling. We stayed on the top floor near the back and we had a deck that viewed the lush plant area. Linda and Mike are very hospitable and welcoming. We will be coming back! Danielle E.
We stayed here recently on a short trip to San Diego from the UK. We couldn’t recommend Mudville Flats enough – a little oasis right near the Gaslamp district and all of its bars and restaurants. Mike and Linda couldn’t have been more accommodating (they even stocked our fridge with some local beer to try!). We had free parking across the street and it was a great base to explore the city. There was also a great terrace from our room (Flat A) where we watched the sunrise from each morning whilst combatting jetlag! Would definitely stay here again Myrtle Ramirez
My husband I stayed for 6 nights attending a conference at the Convention Center. We loved it for many reasons and are booking our return trip for next year! Each day began by making and savoring an early breakfast on the patio (we got all our groceries at the Little Italy Farmers Market and at Grocery Outlet nearby) – Just us and the lovely garden – So relaxing. After a long day at meetings (easy walk from there), it was like returning home. We could kick back, eat at great restaurants (Cafe Chloe and Table No. 10 are new favorites), cook if we wanted, and be removed from the conference scene. The East Village is right near Petco Park and the Gaslamp but it has a character all its own. It was perfect for us. As independent travelers, we appreciated being mostly left to ourselves. We also enjoyed some great chats with Mike and Linda and got offers to be driven somewhere, or picked up, as others have mentioned. So nice! We had a car for a couple of days and the parking was fantastic to have. We also used buses and Car 2 Go. The hotel is a lovingly restored home with all the comforts you could want. We stayed on the back (Room B) and it was SO QUIET). Can’t wait until next year. Room Tip: We stayed on the back and loved the garden. Even though we usually stay with family and friends while visiting San Diego, my husband surprised me with a two-night stay at the Mudville Flats. He wanted to do something special for me during this particular trip because we’re expecting our first baby. It was an awesome surprise! I couldn’t have asked for a better experience. Linda welcomed us with lots of warmth and a down-to-earth attitude. What was super sweet was that she got us a newborn San Diego Padres onesie as a keepsake of our stay at the baseball-themed hotel. My husband and I were thoroughly impressed by the hotel accommodations as well as our interactions with Linda. She was extremely organized with the check-in process and the room was wonderfully decorated. The room was also very clean. Some might be worried by the location of the hotel in downtown San Diego, but both my husband and I felt safe even when we got back super late. The fact that there was a hostel right next to us with lots of travelers hanging out made us feel safe. We have no complaints at all; only compliments! Stayed July 2014, traveled as a couple.Jane
My wife and I stumbled upon Mudville Flats while browsing the internet looking for something out of the ordinary when visiting friends in San Diego. What a wonderful surprise it turned out to be. The rooms are stylish, cozy and spotless and Linda and Mike make you feel as if you’re guests in their home (which you are!). We’ll be back for sure. Stayed July 2014, traveled as a coupleTappo269
I put a lot of trust in reviews and this place did not disappoint! We stayed for one weekend and would most definitely return. Linda is very friendly and her restaurant suggestions were winners. The room was very clean and the bed was exceptionally comfortable (no cheap mattresses here!). The only very minor negative is that street parking is tricky although underground parking is available just across the road for free. If you like baseball, the ballpark is a 10 minute walk away and if you are hungry or thirsty, you can take your pick of almost anything within a few minutes walk. Bicycles are also available for the more adventurous.Grant T.
